Aircraft Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for overseeing and assessing all maintenance operations to guarantee that safe and dependable aircraft are maintained in accordance with the latest technical manuals, directives, and maintenance program instructions. This role involves monitoring safety protocols, conducting inspections, and performing audits as directed by the Quality Assurance Manager and contractual obligations. Quality Control / Quality Assurance Inspectors will operate under the direct supervision of the Quality Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures adherence to contract specifications by all maintenance activities through defined audit and surveillance protocols as outlined in the Quality Assurance Manual and relevant instructions.
  • Conducts final evaluations of all maintenance procedures that impact flight safety or necessitate certification by an Aircraft Inspector, excluding ejection seats and canopy systems.
  • Investigates safety-related incidents and aids in the preparation of Engineering Investigation Requests, Quality Deficiency Reports, Hazardous Material Reports, Technical Publications Deficiency Reports, and Explosive Mishap Reports as necessary.
  • Analyzes relevant maintenance documentation and deficiency data to identify trends and specific areas of concern.
  • Contributes to the creation and refinement of work instructions, maintenance guidelines, local maintenance requirement cards, and ongoing communication with all work centers regarding maintenance and program protocols.
  • May serve as a subject matter expert (SME) or training facilitator as required.
  • Responsible for briefing and debriefing Functional Check Flight pilots to ensure that objectives are achieved.
  • Assists in the compilation of the Quality Assurance Monthly Data Requirements List (CDRL's).
  • Supports the preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly Quality Assurance Control Status Reports for inclusion in submissions to the Program Management Office.
  • Utilizes the NALCOMIS OOMA database information system effectively.
  • Reviews incoming technical publications and directives to assess their relevance to the Maintenance Department.
  • Interacts with customers in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.
  • Adheres to and monitors all established general and industrial safety regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and job responsibilities.
  • Assists as directed to ensure the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Complies with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, Hydraulic Contamination, Oil Surveillance, tool control, and other NAMPSOP programs.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned by management.
  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues to foster teamwork and cooperation.
  • Will be required to achieve Plane Captain qualification for the type/model/series as determined by the company.

QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of CNAFINST series, ISO 9110, NAVAIR CD, and Amentum Quality Assurance protocols.
  • Has a solid understanding of aircraft engines, flight controls, airframes, and associated components.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of relevant maintenance and technical manuals, technical directives, safety protocols, ground support equipment, and specialized tools.
  • Ability to research, read, and interpret technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Discrepancy Reporting Program or Joint Discrepancy Reporting System is essential.
  • Proficient in operating the NALCOMIS OOMA database information system.
  • Capable of writing with clarity and technical precision.
  • Able to brief and debrief Functional Check Flight pilots regarding requirements and expected outcomes.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable contractual performance work requirements.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English, and follow both verbal and written instructions.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of general experience in aircraft maintenance, including at least one (1) year as a Quality Assurance Representative as defined in the COMNAVAIRFORINST series.
  • Successful completion of U.S. Armed Forces aircraft mechanic and/or airframe courses or FAA airframe and power plant technical schools.
  • FAA A & P license is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet any government or company licensing and qualification requirements for the position.
  • Completion of NALCOMIS (Optimized) OMA Quality Assurance Administration course is required.
  • Completion of Aviation Corrosion Control Course is necessary.
  • Preferred candidates will have been fuel cell entrance qualified and completed the Confined Space Entry Authority Course or equivalent.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in awkward positions.
  • May need to lift weights up to 70 lbs.
  • Requires close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Normal hearing range is required.
  • May require the use of a respirator.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Working conditions may vary from a standard shop environment with minimal discomfort to situations where adverse weather conditions may expose individuals to significant temperature changes, wind, rain, etc. Employees may be required to work in high noise environments and wear protective clothing or safety equipment. Responsibilities may include interpreting Safety Data Sheets and handling hazardous materials and chemicals.

  • Work may take place in aircraft maintenance hangars or outdoors.
  • May need to respond to a variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and basic infrastructure.
  • Potential exposure to high noise levels from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May encounter fumes or airborne particles; may face electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.

POTENTIAL RISKS:

Exposure to high-intensity noise levels, extreme temperature variations, materials identified on Safety Data Sheets, and working around aircraft and machinery.

WORK LOCATION:

Aircraft maintenance facilities, hangars, and flightlines. Travel may be required to support cross-country rescue operations and detachments of unspecified duration.
