Job Title: Medical Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality laboratory services to our patients.

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Medical Technologist will perform quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests on patient specimens, analyze test results, and prepare samples for testing. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and protocols, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform laboratory tests on patient specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples
  • Analyze test results and prepare samples for testing
  • Calculate test findings and maintain accurate records
  • Prepare and determine the validity of solutions, reagents, media, stains, and other materials used in the testing process
  • Process and test all types of laboratory specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples
  • Review and report lab results to healthcare providers
  • Perform operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment
  • Act as a resource to other laboratory personnel
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent
  • Prefer 6 months to 1 year of medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist experience in an acute care facility
  • Required: Registered or registry eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS within 12 months of hire)
  • Equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES, or AICE for non-US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire
  • Licensure, as required by State
Skills:
  • Analytical ability to interpret and analyze test results
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with all areas of the physician office
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate various types of laboratory equipment
  • Visual acuity to closely examine specimens
