Job Summary

Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Surgical Technologist to join our team of caregivers. As a key member of our Operating Room team, you will be responsible for leading and directing the activities of assigned Surgical Technologists, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Direction: Monitor and direct the activities of assigned Surgical Technologists in the Operating Room, ensuring that all procedures are conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Technical Expertise: Perform duties of a Surgical Technologist as needed, including preparing sterile fields, passing instruments to surgeons and assistants, and maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Patient Care: Provide patient care in the Operating Room by performing in a scrub role, ensuring that patients receive the highest level of care and attention.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with the Sterile Processing Department to maintain instruments and specialty trays, and communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Performance Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient care and surgical procedures, and provide performance documentation as required.
  • Department Leadership: Assume department leadership in the absence of the supervisor, ensuring that all responsibilities are met and that the Operating Room runs smoothly.
Requirements
  • Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification is required.
  • Education: Completion of a surgical technology program accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or completion of a military surgical technology program.
  • Experience: One year of experience in a Surgical Technologist role is required for internal candidates, and two years of experience is required for external candidates.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting and Mobility: Requires a full range of body motion, including the ability to lift and/or bear the weight of 100 pounds with assistance, or more while pulling, lifting, pushing, and transferring patients to and from various apparatus.
  • Exposure to Body Fluids: Exposure to body fluids is a requirement of this role.
  • Flexibility and Availability: Must be available for flexible scheduling according to the needs of the Operating Room, and may be required to float to other areas within the surgical support department.
