Job Summary

Abilities First is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Assistant to join our team in the Hyde Park Satellite School Program. As a key member of our educational team, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational, physical, social, and emotional needs of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Classroom Teacher in implementing students' Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives.
  • Support students with daily living skills, such as toileting, dressing, and feeding.
  • Assist with classroom activities, including setting up materials, supervising students, and maintaining a safe and organized learning environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on best practices and agency policies.
  • Collaborate with the therapy team to ensure seamless integration of therapy services into the classroom.
  • Escorts students to and from school buses, promoting independence and mobility.
  • Participate in special activities, such as PE, art, and music, to enhance students' educational experience.
  • Perform wheelchair and equipment transporting, transferring, and lifting, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in early childhood and special education preferred.
  • Ability to push and pull students in wheelchairs, lift, bend, squat, turn in the knees, pivot, and grasp with both hands, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
