Job Title: Field Layout Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Field Layout Engineer to join our team at The Christman Company. As a Field Layout Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and precision of our construction projects.

Job Summary:

The Field Layout Engineer will be responsible for planning, setting up, and maintaining layout control for assigned construction projects. This includes establishing building corners and permanent reference points, verifying existing elevations, and laying out column center lines and wall locations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and set up layout control for assigned construction projects
  • Establish building corners and permanent reference points
  • Verify existing elevations and layout column center lines and wall locations
  • Perform as-built surveys to verify correct placement of work and identify conflicts between items of work
  • Assist other project staff in securing certified layout from independent engineering resources
  • Calculate earth, rock, and concrete quantities accurately
  • Assist with the coordination of shop drawings with contract drawings and verify accuracy
  • Responsible for care, maintenance, and calibration of engineering equipment
  • Compile and maintain project records and as-built documents
Requirements:
  • Three (3) years of experience in Building Layout and using Total Station
  • Basic understanding of Trimble and Nikon equipment
  • Deep understanding of research methodology, data analysis, and estimation metrics
  • Experience within General Trade Carpentry
  • Well-organized, excellent communication, and negotiation abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions, trade practices
  • Ability to read a Blueprint
  • Complete knowledge of the estimating documents and ability to provide accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of the documents
  • Familiarity with construction project management software
  • Strong computer knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Work Environment:

The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site, and in an office trailer where they will monitor the project and make daily decisions about construction activities.

The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires wearing protective equipment when on the construction site (Hardhats, safety glasses, and high visibility clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.

Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time position, occasional extended hours and weekends may apply.

Travel:

Minimal travel required, depending on the project, travel to other areas may be required. Majority of travel done during work hours; overnight stays may be required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, sit, walk, reach, kneel, stoop, crouch, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel and to operate a computer keyboard and phone while maintaining visual acuity.

The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or carry lightweight (under 20 pounds) objects.
