Job Title: Veterinary Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our surgeons and veterinary staff in the operating room.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a circulating nurse to support surgeons by positioning and aseptically prepping patients, opening sterilized equipment and instruments, and operating specialized surgical equipment.
  • Instruct senior veterinary and technician students in gowning and gloving, proper hand scrubbing, and basic operating room etiquette.
  • Perform cleaning and stocking duties, check expiration dates on supplies, and assign surgeries to appropriate rooms.
  • Log surgeries into the surgery log and capture and enter all surgical charges with accuracy.

Requirements:

  • Technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.
  • Hands-on experience within an animal hospital setting, including donning surgical scrubs, face covering, and associated PPE to assist with surgery procedures.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a fast-paced operating room environment, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, and standing for long periods.
  • Wear all protective gear, including a mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles, etc.
