About This Role

We are seeking a skilled Chief Financial Strategist to oversee the development and administration of our budget and conduct management studies under the general direction of the Administrative Services Manager. In this role, you will direct the preparation and review of the MWRD budget, monitor expenditures, evaluate proposed expenses, identify budgetary issues, and develop solutions.

You will also be responsible for planning and supervising the work of a division or section, preparing and presenting financial data to stakeholders, conducting advanced-level budget and management analysis studies, and representing the District at community meetings.

This position requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and management practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, review, and present the MWRD budget on an agency-wide basis, ensuring compliance with statutory guidelines, Board policy, and Executive Director's administrative procedures
  • Monitor expenditures and revenues, evaluating proposed expenses and identifying budgetary problems
  • Plan and supervise the work of a division or section, ensuring staff compliance with District policies and procedures
  • Prepare and present financial data to stakeholders, including the Board of Commissioners and Executive staff
  • Conduct advanced-level budget and management analysis studies, analyzing complex financial data to inform budgetary strategy

Requirements

  • Masters degree in business, public administration, or a closely related field, plus 8 years of professional-level experience in budget and management analysis, with 3 years in a supervisory capacity and 3 years in the public sector
  • Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and management practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to design and implement solutions
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with ability to represent the District at community meetings

Salary: $125,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience
