Job Title: Space Resources Program Technician

At Blue Origin, we're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. We're seeking a highly skilled Space Resources Program Technician to join our team in Los Angeles.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the installation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, and repair technical issues on off-the-shelf and custom laboratory equipment.
  • Assemble and test new equipment as directed by engineers.
  • General fabrication knowledge.
  • Operate forklift when necessary.
  • Coordinate with contractors for facility modifications and vendors for equipment delivery and service.
  • Manage on the floor consumables.
  • Manage and coordinate chemical waste storage and disposal.
  • Develop and implement equipment maintenance schedules and protocols.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists on designing and modifying equipment.
  • Participate in the selection and procurement of new laboratory equipment and technologies.
  • Train and mentor junior lab technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and document equipment maintenance and calibration records.
  • Coordinate with departmental managers to prioritize and schedule equipment maintenance, repairs, and installations.
  • Keep updated on advancements in equipment technology and recommend upgrades or modifications as necessary.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion within the Agile Hardware Development team.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 6 years of laboratory experience.
  • Proficient in overseeing and hands-on laboratory setup, including installing analytical instruments.
  • Skilled in basic electrical wiring, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and pump installations.
  • Hands-on experience with a variety of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Effective in managing contractor and vendor relations.
  • Proven ability to manage laboratory chemical waste and compliance with safety standards.
  • Relevant certifications in safety, hazardous material handling, or vacuum chamber operations.
  • Physical capability to move heavy equipment up to 40 lbs. as necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on team collaboration.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
