Education Assistant

About the Role:
Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Staff for Special Education to join our team. As an Instructional Assistant, you will work closely with students requiring instructional and/or behavioral assistance under the supervision of the special education department and/or supervising designee. Your role will involve providing support services to assist students with personal, physical mobility, and therapeutic care needs, as established by a rehabilitation health practitioner, social worker, or other healthcare professional.
Key Responsibilities:
• Follows through with IEP objectives, including math, reading, speech, independent skills, and managing behavioral deficits and excesses, one on one or as a general classroom aide
• Facilitates teacher-directed learning activities, including lesson plans, worksheets, reinforcement systems, small groups, social games, and work assistance
• Assists students during recess and lunch periods, along with community experiences
• Communicates pertinent information to teachers
• Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, parent communications, and/or classroom activities
• Assists with activities of prescribed programs, including those written by related service personnel, such as PT, OT, and SLP
• Assists students in the development of independent skills through self-care activities, such as toileting, clothing routines, feeding, and personal hygiene
• May be asked to assist in behavior management techniques at the direction of the teacher and/or other school professional
• Assists teacher with clerical duties, including making stimuli, making copies, maintaining a clean and organized classroom, preparing materials, and assignment scoring
• Assists with transfers and ambulation
• Appropriately reports changes in client status or as directed by IHP/IEP
Requirements:
• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
• Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
• Current CPR if applicable
• TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable
• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
• Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
• Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
• Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
• Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals, including supervisors, co-workers, clients, via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
• Computer proficiency required
• Must be at least 18 years of age
