Youth Animal Welfare Specialist

About the Position:
The Humane Society of Chittenden County is looking for a talented and compassionate individual to fill the role of Youth Animal Welfare Specialist. In this position, you will be responsible for creating and implementing educational programs that promote animal welfare and empathy among young people.

We are a non-profit organization committed to ensuring every pet has a loving home and that every pet owner has access to resources for happy, healthy lives. Our mission drives us to provide surrender prevention resources and humane education initiatives that keep pets and their families together.
Responsibilities:
- Develop educational content that integrates animal welfare with STEM and Common Core science benchmarks, leading to engaging learning experiences for students.
- Work closely with camp counselors to deliver high-quality educational experiences.
- Manage program applications, registration, and waitlists, ensuring seamless communication with guardians.
- Collaborate with the Communications Manager to advertise and promote programs.
- Organize daily practices, routines, and schedules for in-classroom and out-of-classroom activities.
- Research and engage guest speakers for camp sessions, enhancing students' learning experiences.
- Design and plan after-school and school vacation programs tailored to students' needs.
- Regularly assess students' progress, addressing any learning deficiencies or behavioral issues.
- Source and manage supplies, vendor contracts, and other logistical aspects of camp operations.
Requirements:
- Experience in educational program design and implementation.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in education.
- Valid educator license preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work with children.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Passion for animals and animal welfare.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to handle pressure and challenges effectively.
Estimated Hourly Wage: $25-$32, based on experience.
