About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled GIMS Specialist 2 Hybrid Eligible to join our team at the Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio State Highway Patrol. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting complex analysis of multiple Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct complex analysis of multiple OSHP GIS databases, including the Statistical Analysis Unit (SAU) Computer-Aided Dispatch System (CAD), Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) Electronic Crash System, fatal crash database, and OVI checkpoint database.
  • Utilize GIS software (MapInfo Professional) to produce and/or revise maps related to highway crash statistics and/or OSHP enforcement activities.
  • Design and implement data analysis functions that involve the creation of GIS maps and/or the data used in the creation of maps.
  • Utilize macro-language programming and/or Structured Query Language (SQL) for GIS operations.
  • Coordinate applications design and finalize products based on user needs.
Requirements
  • 4 years of training or experience in the coordination of operations of geographical information systems, including data input operations, creation of digital spatial data bases, design and implementation of geographic information, and applications design and use of projections, coordinate systems, and map algebra in operation of geographic information systems.
  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in geography, natural resources, engineering, planning, computer science, biology, geology, ecology, or related field, including coursework in geographic information systems, applications in geographic information systems, data input operations in geographic information, and creation of digital spatial data bases.
  • Or completion of graduate core program in geography, natural resources, engineering, planning, computer science, biology, geology, ecology, or related field, including coursework in geographic information systems, applications in geographic information systems, data input operations in geographic information, and creation of digital spatial data bases.
  • Or 12 months of experience or training in the use of projections, coordinate systems, and map algebra in operation of geographic information systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical skills in statistics/mathematics, application design, computer literacy, and data analytics.
  • Professional skills in attention to detail, interpreting data, presenting, and strategic thinking.
