Job Overview

The Psychiatric Care Technician plays a vital role in delivering care aligned with the recovery model. This position operates under the supervision of a registered nurse to provide direct care to patients. Responsibilities include supervising, engaging, assisting, and supporting specific age groups of individuals with psychiatric conditions. The technician fosters therapeutic relationships and embodies values that enhance a positive therapeutic environment and patient experience. This role is integral in executing recovery plans and performing routine and assigned tasks while assisting nursing staff with patient care activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute all duties required by the mental health unit as outlined in the service scope, ensuring the unique needs of each patient are met.
  • Conduct safety rounds to verify the safety of patients and the environment. During these rounds, the technician observes patients' appearances and behaviors, documenting their status and reporting any abnormal findings to the registered nurse.
  • Assess patient needs and collaborate with the treatment team to create and implement individualized care plans that reflect patient preferences.
  • Lead and facilitate mental health technician-led group sessions, ensuring proper documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Employ Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques to identify escalating behaviors and de-escalate situations appropriately, maintaining safety for both patients and the unit.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of care provided, ensuring the integration of information for the healthcare team to deliver quality care.
  • Analyze issues effectively and demonstrate appropriate problem-solving actions. Exhibit sound judgment in decision-making when necessary.
  • Deliver person-centered care by offering choices, engaging patients in their treatment, and fostering hope and optimism.
  • Manage the therapeutic environment and redirect behaviors as required.
  • Stay current with knowledge and certifications relevant to the role.
Qualifications

Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling/Psychology, or Psychiatric-Mental Health Preferred
Experience Requirements
  • 1-3 years of experience in psychiatric care or a related healthcare position Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) from the American Heart Association Required upon hire
  • CPI certification within 90 days Required
  • Ukeru User Certification (UKERU_CERT) within 90 days Required
