Job Summary

The EHS Specialist will drive a people-focused EHS culture in a fast-growing organization. This role will partner with senior management, HR, and employees to ensure compliance with required protocols, creating a safe environment for employees. Key responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and support the McFarland Construction team as needed, providing project oversight support or estimating support when required.
  • Maintain and enforce an in-depth knowledge of laws, regulations, and company standards surrounding construction and workplace safety.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams, including clients, McFarland Construction personnel, teaming partners, suppliers, A/E firms, and industry/community stakeholders.
  • Review, revise, monitor, and update the McFarland EHS Manual as needed.
Pre-Construction Processes
  • Develop bid packages with specific attention to safety requirements.
  • Conduct constructability analysis with a focus on safety risk mitigation.
  • Develop project-specific safety plans.
  • Identify and mitigate job hazards.
  • Review project scopes for safety compliance.
  • Review logistics plans for safety considerations.
  • Review subcontractor/supplier safety plans/data to confirm alignment/compliance with McFarland and/or client safety requirements.
Project Management Processes
  • Audit projects for safety.
  • Audit OCR, JHA, and other safety reports for compliance, accuracy, and effective utilization.
  • Interface with McFarland Construction project personnel to support, coach, and promote OSHA-compliant work practices.
  • Interface with client safety representatives to foster proactive communication and risk mitigation.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, accidents, etc.
  • Track performance of McFarland Construction and suppliers.
  • Prepare and respond to client safety inquiries, registrations, annual updates, requests for information, etc.
  • Prepare OCR, JHA, and other field operation-related reports.
  • Ensure OSHA reporting, tracking, and compliance.
  • Oversee processes to consistently improve McFarland Construction's EMR.
  • Provide safety training to McFarland Construction personnel.
  • Support project teams with toolbox talk topics and safety awareness.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in EHS Program Management.
  • Working knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations and industry EH&S standards.
  • Strong knowledge in electrical safety and high voltage, including OSHA and NFPA 70E compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Strong writing capabilities, especially with writing clear, concise EHS procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to interface with all levels of the organization.
  • Travel up to 25% when necessary.
