The Practical Nursing Specialist is a certified nursing professional who delivers skilled, empathetic care to patients and their families under the direct oversight of a physician and Nurse Manager.

This role collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members to ensure a quality-driven, patient-focused workflow within the practice, while also serving as a resource for both clinical and administrative support staff.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides comprehensive physical care and emotional support to patients and families under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and Medical Director.

Engages in the planning, execution, and assessment of nursing care and treatment strategies; observes, reports, and documents relevant patient information in the electronic health record system in accordance with established protocols; identifies patient care requirements and effectively utilizes nursing resources.

Supports and reinforces patient education initiatives, guiding patients on the proper use of medications and providing detailed instructions on wound care.

Administers medications within the defined parameters after successful orientation; performs nursing procedures as outlined by the service protocols.

Captures photographic documentation of patients with various dermatological conditions using diverse photographic techniques and equipment.

Participates in Quality Assurance initiatives; collaborates with peers to uphold established care standards.

Identifies patient care needs and efficiently utilizes nursing resources.

Handles triaging of urgent clinical calls, which may lead to scheduling patient appointments, including Telehealth consultations.

Communicates pathology and lab results to patients, outlining the plan of care.

Utilizes

  • Basket messages to track all biopsies and ensures timely administration of necessary therapies as scheduled by the physician.
Provides clinical nursing support across various Medical Dermatology specialty services.

Obtains prior authorizations for medications as required.

Contributes to the development and implementation of innovative nursing practices; engages in daily activities that promote the comfort and safety of patients, visitors, and staff.

Efficiently utilizes and conserves medical equipment and supplies.

Orders medical supplies and maintains appropriate inventory levels.

Provides feedback to the Nurse Manager regarding perceived unit needs.

Participates in unit and service committees.

Ensures maintenance of a safe physical environment.

Establishes and enforces annual fire and safety regulations for the practice, adhering to established protocols and ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines.

Troubleshoots routine and non-routine issues, taking appropriate measures to resolve them.

The individual in this role must demonstrate a solid understanding of the principles of growth and development across the patient lifespan.

Additionally, the candidate must possess the ability to assess patient data in relation to age-specific needs and provide care as outlined in departmental policies and procedures.

Considers feedback from patients, families, and visitors, relaying insights to the Nurse Manager for practice enhancement.



SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Maintains and enhances clinical knowledge and skills.
Participates in relevant continuing education opportunities.
Attends professional nursing association meetings.
Demonstrates knowledge and commitment to delivering the highest quality patient care and service excellence.
Exhibits initiative and the ability to exercise independent judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

A collaborative, team-oriented attitude is essential, along with the ability to work independently and interact effectively with physicians, managers, and staff across the department and organization.

Possesses effective interpersonal and communication skills, organizational abilities, and the flexibility to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Administration of injections is required.

CERTIFICATIONS:
Current state licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse is mandatory.
BLS certification is required.

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited LPN program is required.
Certification:
Basic Life Support certification is essential.
