Position: Practical Nursing Specialist - Part-Time

Compensation: $29.85 per Hour (Compensation may vary based on relevant experience. Additional pay for evening, weekend, and extra shifts is available.)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates understanding and application of established protocols and guidelines.
  • Contributes to the formulation of nursing care strategies.
  • Monitors and assesses residents' health conditions, relaying significant observations to the registered nurse.
  • Administers therapeutic and preventive nursing interventions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Adheres to the prescribed care plan.
  • Engages in quality assurance initiatives and infection control measures as required.
  • Assists in overseeing non-professional nursing personnel under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
  • Maintains familiarity with medication management policies and procedures.
  • Administers medications in accordance with established protocols.
  • Coordinates medication orders following pharmacy guidelines.
  • Understands the expected and adverse effects of administered medications.
  • Observes residents for medication reactions, documenting and reporting outcomes.
  • Follows established documentation standards.
  • Completes shift reports and hands off any outstanding issues.
  • Familiarizes with documentation requirements related to MDS and resident needs.
  • Utilizes resources efficiently, monitoring usage regularly.
  • Reports unsafe conditions promptly to the Registered Nurse.
  • Documents all incidents and accidents according to policy.
  • Understands and follows emergency protocols.
  • Interacts courteously with all individuals encountered.
  • Addresses residents by name and responds to their needs promptly.
  • Refers concerns to the Registered Nurse Manager or designated supervisor.
  • Assists in orienting new nursing staff.
  • Communicates effectively with other team leaders or nursing management when leaving the unit.
  • Ensures residents attend scheduled activities and therapies punctually.
  • May assist in other areas as staffing needs arise.
  • Adheres to dress code policies.
  • Provides support to colleagues as necessary.
  • Answers call lights and unit phones in the absence of the unit secretary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current New York State practical nurse licensure.
  • Certification in Adult CPR from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience, preferably in geriatric care.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated social and communication abilities, with flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • Ability to interact respectfully and tactfully with staff, residents, families, visitors, vendors, and the public.
