Role Overview

Key Responsibilities:

The Surgical Systems Educator will report to the Training Manager for their designated area. This training expert will provide education on the da Vinci Surgical System technology and facilitate training sessions led by surgeons for surgical teams, including first assistants and operating room staff across various specialties such as urology, gynecology, general surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery. The Surgical Systems Educator will play a vital role in the ongoing enhancement of training initiatives and offer support for customer education, engineering, and research projects.

Core Duties:

  • Deliver comprehensive training programs on the da Vinci Surgical System for surgical teams at assigned training facilities and remote locations.
  • Support specialized training initiatives and professional society events, addressing the needs of surgeon educators and course participants.
  • Conduct assessments to collect feedback and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for internal projects, as required, including:
    • New product development
    • Creation of training materials and protocols
    • Training research initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Training team in a creative, reliable, and adaptable manner to enhance existing training programs.
  • Educate the sales team on conducting in-services and developing system technology skills with customers on both new and established products.
  • Occasionally assist with the da Vinci System in a surgical environment.
  • Provide support for da Vinci Surgical System troubleshooting and maintenance at the training facility.
  • Oversee training center logistics, inventory management, and scheduling.
  • Ensure the maintenance of all capital equipment, including the cleaning and sterilization of instruments and accessories.
  • Foster positive relationships between external training center staff and management.
  • Contribute to the organization’s quarterly performance goals.
  • Develop expertise in the following areas:
    • da Vinci System Technology
    • da Vinci System applications and advanced technologies
    • Operating Room Efficiency
    • Training Pathway processes
    • Training and coaching methodologies

Education and Training Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Clinical or Health Sciences, Healthcare Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Communications, or Education.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with adult learning principles.
  • Experience with medical devices.
  • Background in professional training.
  • Clinical and/or operating room experience.
