Service Shop Manager Job Description

Overview:

Gordon Truck Centers, Inc. (GTC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Service Shop Manager to lead the Service Department at our Olympia branch. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the service department, providing exceptional customer service, and promoting a safe and productive work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the Service Department, including safety, throughput, productivity, process development & compliance, cost controls, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead and coordinate the activities of lead technicians and technicians, focusing on superior customer service, department efficiency, and profitability.
  • Promote and manage safety at the Olympia branch, ensuring a safe work environment for employees, vendors, and customers.
  • Monitor service levels to ensure the overall goals of the organization are being met and take corrective measures as needed.
  • Work directly with Lead Technicians on coordination of repairs and provide backup support for Service Account Managers as needed.
  • Administer staff training schedules to meet organizational goals and company dealer agreements.
  • Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
  • Assist with the development, administration, and maintenance of all regulatory and dealership safety standards.
  • Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
  • Maintain exceptional customer satisfaction culture and initiatives, addressing customer complaints as needed.
  • Monitor staff work levels and review work performance regularly with employees.
  • Facilitate ongoing meetings with staff, addressing issues related to departmental operations.
  • Requisition materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts, as directed by the Service Manager.
  • Participate in employee new hire and onboarding procedures.
  • Maintain a departmental company team attitude with all employees, emphasizing safety, service, and sustainability.
  • Participate in strategic and planning processes, including goal setting and monitoring.
  • Participate in financial and performance updates.

Qualifications:

  • High School GED or equivalent preferred.
  • 4 years of repair shop experience as a technician and 2 years of service department supervisory or shop foreman experience.
  • Experience in business and management, including strategic planning, resource allocation, staff planning, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Good leadership capabilities and the ability to promote a strong team atmosphere focused on building the business with quality service.
  • Superior customer relations and problem-solving skills.
  • Technical background and ability to communicate with technicians and customers regarding repairs on heavy and medium-duty trucks.

Job Conditions:

  • Extensive keyboard work and viewing computer screens.
  • Telephone usage.
  • Standing, bending, stretching.
  • Some heavy lifting may be required, up to or beyond 70 pounds.
  • Personal Protective Equipment in shop areas may be required.

Compensation:

Based on level of experience, compensation range is between $58,000-$80,000, plus incentives.
