Orthoptist Specialist

The Certified Orthoptist plays a crucial role in supporting the Ophthalmologist and preparing patients for examination. This position requires advanced knowledge of ophthalmic patient care principles to assist and support the assigned Physician and Team with complex procedures, in addition to routine tasks. The successful candidate will act as a project manager for physician/admin in contracts or agreements set forth by physician and administration, monitoring projects for timeliness, quality, and delivery of projected goals. Additionally, they will assist in the completion of goals to assigned projects or contracts as needed.
Requirements- High School Diploma or GED
- Successful completion of education through AOC (American Orthoptic Council)
- Completion of competency in Loma Linda general competency standards within 90 days of hire
- Minimum 2 years back office ophthalmology experience required; 5 years highly desirable
- Read, write legibly, and speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality
- Use computer and software programs necessary to the position
- Troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment
- Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others
- Work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure
- Lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate
- Accept direction
- Communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone
- Think critically
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Perform basic math functions
- Manage multiple assignments effectively
- Work well under pressure
- Problem solve
- Organize and prioritize workload
- Recall information with accuracy
- Pay close attention to detail
- Current national AOC certification required
- Certification with JCAHPO Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology highly desirable
