Position Overview

SUPPORT AREA:

Pediatric Laboratory Services

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Pediatric Support Specialist operates within the established guidelines, protocols, and program objectives of the Nursing Department at the organization. Reporting to the Nurse Manager of the Pediatric Inpatient Unit, this role is accountable for the design, execution, and assessment of Child Life initiatives aimed at enhancing the social, emotional, and physical health of children receiving care in a hospital environment. Additionally, this position includes the management of pediatric volunteers and the training of hospital personnel regarding the psychosocial and developmental requirements of children and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Child Life is mandatory. A Master's degree in Child Life is advantageous.
  • Successful completion of a 600-hour internship under the guidance of a Certified Child Life Specialist is required.
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist is preferred, with the expectation of obtaining certification within six months of employment.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of one year of experience in the role of a Child Life Specialist is preferred.
