Job Overview

Objective:

The Mathematics Center Operations Coordinator will provide support to students enrolled in mathematics or related disciplines, as well as collaborate with faculty members from the Mathematics Department. This role includes overseeing and guiding instructional assistants, peer tutors, and temporary staff within the Mathematics Center. Additionally, the coordinator will address and assist with computational software challenges in the computer labs associated with the Mathematics Center, along with performing other related tasks as necessary. This is a full-time, twelve-month position that offers comprehensive benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the Mathematics Center.
  • Recruit, train, and schedule staff to deliver personalized instruction in various formats, including in-person, online, and hybrid models.
  • Inspire and develop team members through professional and personal growth initiatives.
  • Conduct student assessments to identify learning gaps and create tailored learning strategies.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by fostering relationships with both students and faculty.
  • Assist the Director in tracking and enhancing performance metrics related to student success and retention in mathematics courses.
  • Achieve proficiency in digital educational tools and methodologies.
  • Ensure a safe and professional learning atmosphere is maintained.
  • Coordinate tutoring operations, including remote and on-campus academic support services.
  • Provide academic coaching to help students establish realistic objectives and improve their study habits.
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop promotional materials and strategies to raise awareness of tutoring services.
  • Work alongside the Director and Institutional Research to evaluate student progress and report on success metrics in mathematics courses.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports.
  • Engage in departmental meetings and committees as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work in a classroom or laboratory setting, engaging in moderately active tasks, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Willingness to occasionally work outside standard business hours to ensure the success of the Mathematics Center.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Attributes:

  • Strong understanding of mathematical concepts from introductory levels to advanced topics, including differential equations, linear algebra, geometry, and statistics; familiarity with teaching methodologies and the operation of computers and calculators; proficiency in software applications relevant to mathematics courses.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students.
  • A genuine passion for mathematics and dedication to student support.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational capabilities.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with relevant software programs.

Certifications and Education:

  • A master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics, or a bachelor's degree in either field combined with a master's degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education, or equivalent qualifications are required.
  • Experience with standard mathematics software tools such as Knewton, Connect Math, and MyLab Math is preferred, along with a strong willingness to learn new software.
  • Previous management or leadership experience is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform light office work.
  • Capacity for prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended durations.
