Job Summary

Catholic Charities Wichita is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Early Childhood Specialist to join our team. As an Early Childhood Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing developmental screenings and activities for children and parents in our shelters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Developmental Screenings: Conduct thorough developmental screenings on each child aged 0-5 years old who enters our shelters, collaborating with parents, case managers, counselors, and child advocates to provide comprehensive services.
  • Implement Developmental Activities: Work with children and parents individually and in group settings to enhance developmental skills, utilizing a solution-oriented approach to address problems and concerns, including non-violent discipline methods.
  • Document Progress: Document assessment, family history, and progress regarding developmental and behavioral issues of children, following up with clients and continuing provision of services as needed.
  • Coordinate Community Resources: Coordinate community resources and refer clients to subsequent services, maintaining professional contact with community resources and advocating for client needs.
  • Report Suspicions of Abuse or Neglect: Report suspicions of abuse or neglect, ensuring the safety and well-being of our clients.
  • Provide Life Skills Classes: Conduct life skills classes for families as needed, addressing topics relevant to their roles as parents and/or caregivers of children.
  • Complete Documentation: Complete all documentation relevant to the role of Early Childhood Specialist in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Education: A graduate degree in Early Childhood or Early Childhood Special Education is required.
  • Certification, Recertification, Registration, or License: A Class C driver's license, motor vehicle, and insurance are required.
  • Experience: Experience or training in early childhood education and developmental assessments, as well as experience with domestic violence, economically disadvantaged, or other social issues, is highly desirable.
  • Skills and Abilities: The ability to use a personal computer via mouse and keyboard, familiarity with Windows and Microsoft products, is essential.
Physical Demands
  • Work Type: The work type is light, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Climbing/Balancing/Freedom to Move: May be assigned to a multilevel building with some floors accessible by stairs only, with minimal required moving about the office.
  • Stooping/Bending: Regularly.
  • Reaching: Occasional, overhead as well as horizontal and down.
  • Vision: Adequate to perform essential functions.
  • Color Vision: No particular color vision requirement.
  • Hearing: Frequently perceive nature of sounds by ear.
  • Speech: Frequently express ideas by means of spoken words.
  • Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination: Frequently operates equipment requiring moderate ability.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequently operates equipment requiring moderate ability.
