Position Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Lab Manager for the Innovation Hub at the UVA Lab School. This role is integral to fostering an environment where students engage in meaningful, interdisciplinary learning experiences. The Innovation Hub aims to inspire curiosity, promote innovation, and empower students to tackle real-world challenges through project-based learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with educators and administrators to design a curriculum that meets educational standards while integrating innovative, student-centered projects. Continuously refine the curriculum based on technological advancements and stakeholder input.
- Coordinate with school leadership to ensure equitable access for all students to the Innovation Hub.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment within the Innovation Hub. Work with faculty to establish and uphold safety protocols for all equipment and activities. Manage an inventory of lab resources, ensuring all technology and materials are current and safe for student use.
- Facilitate hands-on, project-based learning experiences that leverage community resources in partnership with educators. Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and computational skills among students.
- Oversee assessments related to project-based learning and provide constructive feedback to both students and educators. Gather input from all stakeholders to identify areas for improvement.
- Conduct professional development sessions to introduce new tools and teaching strategies. Mentor educators in creating project-based, computationally rich learning experiences.
- Organize events and showcases to highlight student achievements and promote the initiatives of the Innovation Hub.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree is required, along with four years of progressively responsible management experience. Two years of supervisory experience is essential. Relevant exempt-level experience may substitute for educational requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years of experience in a leadership role within an educational setting.
- Possession of a Virginia teaching license with a middle school science endorsement or eligibility to obtain one.
- A background in computer science at the undergraduate or graduate level, or experience integrating computer science into K-8 education.
- Experience in designing and implementing project-based learning in middle school environments.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience in providing professional development related to computer science integration for K-8 educators.
- A commitment to personal and professional growth as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated professionalism and sound decision-making abilities.
Physical Requirements:
This position primarily involves sedentary work with extensive use of desktop computers. Occasional travel may be required for meetings and programs.
