Job Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and proficient Legal Assistant to enhance our legal team at The Law Office of Stacy D Heard, PLLC. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise and organizational abilities to prepare and manage legal documentation, conduct client interviews, and perform legal research.

Compensation:

$70,000 - $90,000

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist attorneys in trial preparation by researching legal precedents, organizing exhibits, coordinating witness schedules, filing motions, and supporting client consultations.
  • Draft legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings, including complaints, interrogatories, subpoenas, and affidavits, under attorney supervision.
  • Handle administrative duties such as answering phone calls and maintaining an orderly filing system for all legal records.
  • Conduct client interviews to gather pertinent information regarding their legal issues.
  • Facilitate law office operations, including drafting subpoenas and coordinating with process servers.

Client-Focused Duties:

  • Perform preliminary legal research and writing on fundamental issues.
  • Draft legal pleadings incorporating client details.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to align legal strategies with client objectives, ensuring mutual understanding of progress and goals.
  • Maintain communication with clients throughout their case journey to keep them informed of developments.
  • Manage and analyze discovery materials.
  • Prepare memorandums and correspondence to keep team members and clients updated on case status and future steps.

Administrative and Financial Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture by participating in training and team-building activities.
  • Create detailed billable time entries that reflect tasks performed and demonstrate progress for clients; monitor performance against quarterly Key Performance Indicators.
  • Ensure files are current, organized, and attorneys are well-prepared.
  • Achieve billable hour targets.

Marketing Contributions:

  • Propose thoughtful gestures of appreciation for referrals and those who assist the firm.
  • Engage positively on social media to enhance the firm’s brand and showcase its vibrant culture.
  • Occasionally participate in podcasts, recordings, and live events to promote the firm’s message.

Operational Enhancements:

  • Develop and refine the firm’s operational systems, including policies, procedures, templates, and workflows.
  • Analyze data to identify opportunities for improving service delivery and client engagement.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in legal services within a law firm environment.
  • Completion of an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program or a related degree is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proficiency in writing and grammar are essential.
  • Completion of a nationally-accredited paralegal program is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills are necessary.
