POSITION SUMMARY:

The Seasonal Culinary Specialist collaborates closely with the Food and Sanitation Coordinator to ensure the nutritional needs of Camp Wakonda's Food Services are met. This role involves assisting with food procurement, inventory management, meal preparation, serving, and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support the daily operations of the camp's food service.
  2. Prepare and cook meals according to the established menu, employing various cooking methods such as boiling, broiling, steaming, and roasting.
  3. Bake a variety of items, including breads, muffins, and desserts.
  4. Ensure proper food temperatures are maintained and assess food quality.
  5. Assist in managing inventory effectively.
  6. Communicate any inventory changes to the Food and Sanitation Coordinator.
  7. Maintain routine sanitation and cleanliness of the kitchen, equipment, and facilities.
  8. Uphold high standards of hygiene, sanitation, and safety.
  9. Clean and sanitize all food preparation equipment, kitchen floors, and storage areas.
  10. Implement waste reduction, reuse, and recycling practices.
  11. Comply with all health code regulations.
  12. Collaborate as a member of the camp staff team.
  13. Maintain effective communication with administrative camp personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be available for the duration of the camp season.
  2. Must be at least 18 years old with prior experience in youth engagement and/or food service.
  3. Must obtain Missouri Serve Safe certification prior to the start of the camp.
  4. Possess a solid understanding of food service, storage, and cleanliness standards.
  5. Demonstrate the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  6. Able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate program changes.

  3. Endurance is required to work in varying temperatures, including exposure to heat, hot stoves, and cleaning products.
  4. Physical ability to respond to emergencies, including assisting campers during incidents.
  5. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  6. Prolonged standing, bending, walking, and stretching are necessary throughout the day.
  7. Coordination and dexterity are required to operate kitchen equipment.
  8. Normal hearing and eyesight are essential for recording and monitoring camp activities.
