Overview

Under the guidance of the Manager of the 24/7 Team, and in partnership with various departments within Facilities Operations, the Site Protection Supervisor will oversee a dedicated team of maintenance mechanics tasked with addressing emergency and urgent matters on campus. This role is crucial in ensuring that all life safety systems within the University are inspected, tested, maintained, and repaired in accordance with relevant codes and standards.

Given the nature of this position, which involves supervising staff working around the clock, it is essential for the supervisor to engage with both day and night shifts. The working hours for this role will typically be from 1 PM to 9:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of flexible scheduling one day a week to accommodate mandatory meetings and training.

All personnel within Facilities Operations are deemed essential and are expected to be available for after-hours or emergency call-ins as required by the department.

Responsibilities

  • Management: Organize, schedule, and train staff to ensure high-quality work while maximizing safety and efficiency.
  • Analyze budgetary and financial data to keep expenditures within the assigned departmental budget.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels, conduct performance evaluations, and support the department's computerized maintenance management system.

Knowledge and Judgment:

  • Ensure the continuous functionality of campus fire alarms, fire suppression systems, access control, and security systems, completing all preventive maintenance work orders on time.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Public Safety and Building Maintenance to ensure prompt responses to emergency service requests.
  • Lead the 24/7 response team, which includes hiring, scheduling, evaluating, and maintaining employee records. Ensure all team members are well-informed of University policies and procedures.
  • Provide essential technical and safety training.
  • Manage projects effectively, leading major maintenance initiatives to successful completion.

Communication Skills:

  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and administrative abilities to manage budgets, documentation, and communication within the department.
  • Effectively interact with a diverse range of customers and colleagues at all organizational levels.

Qualifications:

  • Seven to ten years of experience in the life safety and security systems sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge of safe work practices related to the installation and repair of fire alarm and life safety systems.
  • General understanding of various building trades and construction practices.
  • Proficient troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop maintenance programs that align with University needs and available resources.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with relevant software applications.
  • A valid driver's license and successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment physical assessment are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a vocational/technical program or apprenticeship in life safety systems maintenance.
  • A Bachelor's degree in fire science, fire administration, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications in fire protection or life safety, such as NICET level 2 or Certified Fire Protection Specialist.
