Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Medical Director to lead our public health efforts in the Upstate Region. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of clinically related care provided in the region, including clinical consultation, policy development, and collaboration with APRNs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical consultation by phone for health department clinics
  • Assist with policy, procedure, and standing order development
  • Serve as collaborating physician for up to six (6) APRNs
  • Serve as the back-up physician for other regions
  • Directly supervise the Region Laboratory Manager
  • Keep current regarding trends and best practices in public health
  • Actively engage local communities as a public health leader and advocate
  • Maintain mutually beneficial relationships with providers, hospitals, residency programs, schools, and universities
  • Conduct data walks and provide clinical/epidemiological consultation to community providers and other healthcare professionals
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and disease response efforts, including planning, training, investigating, and monitoring outbreaks/cases of reportable diseases
Requirements
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Current unrestricted license from the SC Board of Medical Examiners to practice medicine in South Carolina or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Thorough knowledge/understanding of principles and practices of medicine related to public health services
  • Strong background in epidemiology
  • Understanding of the structure and functions of healthcare organizations and current social and economic problems pertaining to public health at a national, state, and community level
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in public health or related healthcare field
  • Relevant training as a CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer or other similar epidemiologic training program
  • Two (2) years of experience in a clinical setting or completion of a residency program
  • Current and ongoing Board Certification by an approved American medical specialty board in preventive medicine, family practice, or internal medicine
