Job Summary:

The Access Management Representative will be responsible for interviewing patients or their representatives to obtain necessary personal, financial, and demographic information. This will involve preparing patient records, verifying insurance coverage, and completing and obtaining signatures on required forms. Additionally, the successful candidate will collect co-payments, deductibles, and other cash payments as needed, and balance daily payment sheets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to unit-based safety and infection control requirements.
  • Develop and maintain excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with co-workers, patients, physicians, and the public.
  • Interview patients or representatives and enter complete information into the computer, obtaining all pertinent signatures, insurance information, and financial data to protect the hospital's financial reimbursement.
  • Perform special assigned duties to meet the needs of the department.
  • Assume cashiering responsibilities after hours and weekends.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits within a timeframe determined by the hospital, and obtain pre-authorizations from third-party payers in accordance with payer requirements.
  • Verify medical necessity in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standards and communicate relevant coverage/eligibility information to the patient.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization, and notify patients of any deposits/deductibles needed prior to registration.
  • Obtain estimates for procedure cost upon patient request.
Requirements:
  • One (1) year computer data entry experience, required.
  • One (1) year customer service experience working with patients or customers, required.
  • One (1) year healthcare insurance verification, preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, preferred.
Education:
  • High school diploma or GED, required.
