Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Retail Sales Specialist to join our team at REI in Virginia Beach. As a key member of our sales team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, supporting sales efforts, and maintaining a high level of product knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support customers by responding to product, membership, and REI service questions, general inquiries, and customer feedback.
  • Effectively help prepare the store by maintaining and stocking work areas, ensuring all items are accurately priced.
  • Work with store management, visual merchandising, and sales leads to maintain visual standards.
  • Promote the sale of REI goods and services, engaging in sales and service training.
  • Provide customers with product, membership, and service information, including the REI Mastercard program.
  • Process purchase, membership, service, and return transactions at the register, aligning with REI's 100% satisfaction guarantee.
  • Collect payment, make change, and distribute receipts.
  • Perform unique transactions, such as special orders, Outdoor School registration, special ticket sales, and store mail-outs.
  • Identify, research, and resolve customer issues.
  • Support Retail Store Pick-Up by assisting with product receipt and customer pick-up processing.
  • Maintain customer and employee hold areas, keeping them organized and removing items beyond hold dates.
Requirements
  • Previous retail store experience (preferred)
  • Actively participate and collaborate with others on one's own team and across REI for business goals.
  • Flexible in viewpoints and positions to support REI direction.
  • Use business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in problem-solving or business opportunities.
  • Consolidate information from various sources, including feedback from others, to reach sound decisions.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Build rapport with all kinds of people inside and outside the organization.
  • Knowledgeable of outdoor activities in assigned departments.
  • Consider the ultimate impact of decisions and actions on internal and external customers.
  • Work smart by setting effective work goals, establishing priorities, and planning well to produce quality work.
  • Execute effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress.
  • Act upon opportunities and involve others in worthwhile organizational goals.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including evenings and weekends.
