Job Overview

We are currently seeking On-Call Biological Field Monitors / Technicians (CG03) to assist in construction oversight across California. This position is ongoing, and we are consistently looking for skilled professionals to enhance our team. Applications are continuously reviewed on a rolling basis. Candidates should possess a minimum of 1-year prior monitoring experience, with expertise in bird surveying, California plant identification, and endangered species fieldwork being essential. Reliable transportation is a must, and if driving, proof of a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance is required. Mileage reimbursement is available in accordance with FCS Vehicle Policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify plant species and their habitat associations.
  • Conduct wildlife surveys, including nesting birds and rare/threatened/endangered species, along with their habitats.
  • Assist in writing field reports and operating GPS equipment.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in fieldwork protocols and techniques.
  • Ability to produce results and meet deadlines while maintaining professionalism and a positive demeanor.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with the capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow instructions and ask informed questions.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and communication abilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related discipline.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience and/or education (minimum of 1 year in the field).
  • Knowledge of general ecology, botany, and zoology is required.
  • Familiarity with federal environmental laws and regulations, including NEPA/CEQA documentation.
  • Good understanding of California's flora and fauna.

Work Environment: This role involves exposure to various weather conditions and terrains. The position requires outdoor work and travel to project sites throughout California. Compliance with all travel and in-person safety policies is mandatory.

Physical Requirements: The employee is regularly required to communicate effectively and may spend extended periods standing or walking outdoors. The role involves stooping, reaching, and dexterity with hands and fingers. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Walking distances of 5 or more miles per day may be necessary, and the ability to lift up to 15 lbs is required.

Compensation: $20 - $35 Hourly
