Mission Manager

About the Role
Vast is seeking a highly skilled Mission Manager to support the technical and program management execution of our customers and programs involving human spaceflight. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of our programs, from launching human crew and pressurized payloads to low earth orbital destinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end mission success, ensuring that all customer requirements are met or exceeded.
- Act as the face of Vast to our customers, providing exceptional communication and project management skills.
- Create and maintain overall project schedules and budgets, focusing on meeting or exceeding customer milestones and deliverables.
- Support multiple programs and competing priorities concurrently, utilizing strong organizational and time management skills.
- Lead technical projects from contract signature through mission completion, ensuring seamless execution and customer satisfaction.
- Mitigate and resolve technical and programmatic issues that arise, utilizing a success-oriented approach and passion for resolution.
- Interface with internal engineering, management, and production teams to ensure on-time execution of the mission while meeting all customer requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering and production groups to understand vehicle readiness and how changes impact requirements, vehicle risk, and launch dates.
- Work closely with the Business Development team to support proposal generation and coordinate mission activities with overall business activities in an as-needed sales engineer role.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or science.
- 5+ years of industry experience, with a focus on technical project management and hands-on experience with hardware or software technical projects.
- Experience acting as the primary interface of a company and program to an external customer, with a strong understanding of U.S. Government customers and NASA.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Master's degree in an engineering or science discipline.
- Experience with human spaceflight missions and working with technically competent customers within aerospace projects.
- Professional experience working with leading U.S.-based launch suppliers and excellent technical writing skills, especially involving multi-party interface specifications.
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and leadership skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding start-up atmosphere.
- Excellent communication skills to deal with the customer at the technical and management level, as well as our internal engineering and production team.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
- Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones.
