Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Agriculture Compliance Specialist to join our team at the Georgia Department of Agriculture. As a key member of our Food Safety Division, you will play a critical role in protecting consumers' health and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct random, unannounced inspections of regulated firms, including grocery stores, convenience stores, bakeries, seafood operations, salvage food operations, and mobile meat trucks.
  • Collect food and water samples during inspections and review sanitation practices and product labels.
  • Assist with the implementation of programs to detect specific diseases in cooperation with state, federal, and industry standards.
  • Inspect and investigate food facilities to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Report compliance findings to relevant authorities and stakeholders.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in agronomy, animal science, biology, chemistry, or a related area from an accredited college or university. Certification as a Registered Sanitarian or Environmental Health Specialist is also highly desirable.

Additionally, you will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. A strong understanding of food safety regulations and guidelines is essential, as is the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

  • Certification as a registered sanitarian or registered environmental health specialist by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).
  • Two years of professional experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance with established state and federal health and food and/or milk sanitation laws, rules, and regulations.
