Lead Biomedical Engineering Supervisor

This role is for a Lead Biomedical Engineering Supervisor within the Biomedical Engineering program at the Veterans Health Administration. The individual in this position will oversee the professional and administrative operations of a biomedical engineering and electronics division in a facility of significant complexity. This role includes the supervision of biomedical engineering and electronics technicians.

Key Responsibilities
The Lead Biomedical Engineering Supervisor is tasked with the comprehensive management of a biomedical engineering and electronics division. Responsibilities include:
- Establishing performance standards and conducting evaluations for team members.
- Making recommendations for personnel actions such as appointments, awards, and disciplinary measures.
- Identifying ongoing training requirements for staff.
- Managing the financial resources allocated for quality assurance and maintenance of medical equipment.
The supervisor acts as a key advisor to the Chief of Engineering Service in matters related to Biomedical Engineering, drawing on both educational qualifications and practical experience.
In addition, this role encompasses the management of medical instrument maintenance programs, ensuring the safety and reliability of medical equipment, and overseeing all recalls and hazard alerts.
Personnel Management
The supervisor will lead recruitment, onboarding, and training initiatives for new staff, as well as develop job descriptions and manage personnel functions.
Ensuring compliance with standards set by regulatory bodies such as The Joint Commission and the FDA is also a critical aspect of this role.
Customer Support Leadership
Providing exceptional support to medical staff, nurses, and technologists is a priority. The supervisor will represent the organization in discussions with manufacturers and vendors regarding medical instrumentation.
Committee Involvement
This position involves advising various committees on equipment evaluations and making informed recommendations for new acquisitions, which can involve significant financial implications.
Project Management
The supervisor will lead projects related to the purchase, planning, and installation of biomedical instrumentation, collaborating with clinical staff on design and planning for clinical spaces.
Compliance and Security
Ensuring effective management of HIPAA and network security issues related to medical systems is essential. The supervisor will also be responsible for training clinical staff on proper procedures for medical equipment use.
Work Schedule: Standard business hours, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution or certification as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE).
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
