Job Overview:

This role may be utilized by various state agencies.

Function of Work:
The primary responsibility is to assist in the execution of GIS-related tasks, which may include:
  • Utilizing GIS software for data modeling and manipulation, requiring both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Defining output parameters by integrating data, graphics, and geographical information into a database or system.
  • Creating and maintaining essential metadata, which is critical for all GIS mapping activities.
  • Entering and verifying GIS data through manual and heads-up digitizing techniques.
  • Assisting in spatial analyses using appropriate GIS application tools and commands.
  • Contributing to the production of data layers or features for mapping, including the integration of aerial photography to generate specialized maps.
  • Gathering, compiling, manipulating, and storing both spatial and non-spatial data.
  • Participating in fieldwork for GIS projects, which may involve aerial photo interpretation and remote sensing image classification.
  • Receiving training in the use of satellite receivers and other technical GIS equipment.
  • Learning to convert GPS data into GIS data.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a baccalaureate degree with at least twelve semester hours in GIS or related courses, such as remote sensing, cartography, spatial analysis, and computer science courses pertinent to geographic information systems.

Substitutions:
Experience in digital mapping technology may substitute for educational requirements, with specific criteria outlined for varying levels of experience.

Job Distinctions:
This position is differentiated from higher-level GIS Analyst roles by the absence of independent GIS analysis work of moderate complexity.
