Role Overview
The Patient Eligibility Advocate serves as a vital resource for patients, demonstrating a deep commitment to community support. This role involves guiding individuals through the application process for various State and Federally funded assistance programs, including but not limited to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other community-based support services. The advocate will collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including healthcare staff, patients, and government agencies, to ensure comprehensive support.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a patient advocate while facilitating communication between patients, healthcare teams, and government representatives to establish eligibility for essential services.
- Manage a high volume of calls, screening patients for financial and medical eligibility for available benefits.
- Utilize diverse communication methods such as appointments, calls, texts, and virtual meetings to educate patients about their eligibility.
- Employ screening tools to assess patient eligibility for various assistance programs.
- Guide patients through the application process, ensuring all necessary documentation and signatures are obtained.
- Assist patients in resolving discrepancies with external agencies.
- Submit applications and supporting documents according to established protocols.
- Maintain AIDET standards to ensure a positive patient experience.
- Meet performance objectives related to account resolution and quality assurance.
- Travel as needed to support patient enrollment and attend community events, with a hybrid work model that includes remote and in-person responsibilities.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Document patient interactions accurately and efficiently.
- Participate in compliance training and uphold all relevant regulations, including HIPAA.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of various eligibility programs and community resources.
- Assist in training new team members and addressing escalated issues.
- Foster relationships with community organizations to enhance outreach efforts.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 3 years in a customer service role, with direct interaction with clients.
- Experience in a high-volume call environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex information for patients.
- Proficient in navigating multiple databases and technology platforms.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver's license are required.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Experience in financial counseling within healthcare settings.
- Familiarity with government assistance programs and healthcare revenue cycles.
