Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Job Summary:
This position performs and teaches diagnostic procedures in Nuclear Medicine. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist administers radiopharmaceuticals, operates technical instruments, and analyzes acquired data. The role works under the supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor and takes direction from Nuclear Medicine physicians.
Key Responsibilities:
Administration & Record of Radiopharmaceutical:
Identify patients, confirm date of birth, hospital number, and identification. Achieve venous access and administer radiopharmaceutical. Record route of administration, dose, and technologist's initials.
- Describe exam to patient, obtain informed consent, complete necessary paperwork for study input of patient information into radiology management system for record keeping and charge generation.
- Evaluate requisition, chart, and lab results. Perform patient assessment. Identify patient. Confirm females of childbearing age are not pregnant. Arrange for pregnancy testing upon orders from the Nuclear Medicine physician.
- Perform advanced duties such as found in Positron Emission Technology (PET) imaging and/or lead technologist role.
- Handle radiopharmaceuticals, including receipt, proper documentation, and disposal. Follow guidelines set up by Radiation Safety Office and NRC.
- Select, dose, and quality control review radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring each dose is correct for the ordered procedure, correct activity, acceptable quality control, and properly recorded in dose records.
- Set up acquisition and perform according to protocol, maintain patient comfort, care, and safety. Analyze images and evaluate for correctness. Process films and submit to physician for approval.
- Use RIS, CIS, SMS, and PACS to generate proper documentation. Complete all RIS orders with the appropriate and accurate charges added. Use transport tracking system to arrange transportation of inpatients to and from NM department.
Requirements:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
Licensure/Certification:
Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or registry eligible and become registered within one (1) year from date of hire. Maintain registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
Professional Experience:
No prior experience required.
