Hope Elementary School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Assistant III to join our team. As a Special Education Assistant III, you will play a vital role in supporting students with significant physical, learning, social-emotional, and/or medical and health-related needs.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist certificated teachers and related service providers in providing instruction to students with severe physical, learning, social-emotional, and/or medical and health-related needs.
- Support students with specific learning disabilities, severe emotional and behavioral issues, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, orthopedic and other health impairment, and students with impaired vision, hearing, speech, and/or other limiting conditions.
- Assist in teaching cursive writing and in developing language skills in students by correlating correct vocabulary and phonics.
- Supervise students on playgrounds and on field trips.
- Perform incidental clerical and other work as required.
- Assist students with feeding, toileting, diapering, personal hygiene, dispensing medication as appropriate, performing g-tube feeding and venting, suctioning, and implementing seizure protocols and Individualized Health Care Plans.
- Associate of Arts degree or two years of college credit (48 units).
- Experience with and knowledge of learning disabilities.
- Ability to relate warmly to parents and students from various ethnic backgrounds.
- Ability to assist students with special learning problems and motivate and supervise learning activities in a school setting.
The Special Education Assistant III will work in a classroom and school playground environment. The ability to perform strenuous physical activities, including pushing, lifting, and transferring students in wheelchairs, is required.
