Position Overview:

The Cardiac Monitoring Specialist plays a crucial role in the Special Care Unit by overseeing cardiac rhythm monitoring, managing Meditech order entries, and performing limited patient care responsibilities. This individual is tasked with interpreting rhythm changes and promptly communicating findings to the nursing staff, while also ensuring the maintenance of monitoring equipment and executing various clerical tasks such as answering calls and replenishing supplies. The role includes acquiring and monitoring vital signs, as well as reporting any abnormal findings to the nursing team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Vigilantly monitors up to 16 cardiac monitors, interpreting and documenting rhythm strips.
  • Notifies healthcare providers and nursing staff of any abnormal vital signs or parameters.
  • Assists in the safe transfer of patients as required.
  • Provides basic emergency medical assistance or first aid when necessary.
  • Reviews patient charts and orders for accuracy.
  • Maintains effective communication with physicians, registered nurses, technicians, patients, and their families.
  • Ensures precision in entries within the Special Care Unit and telemetry log books.
  • Responds to call lights in the absence of nursing staff.
  • Supports registered nurses with fundamental patient care tasks.
  • Handles incoming telephone calls.
  • Ensures cleanliness and proper stocking of patient rooms.
  • Maintains telemetry units, applies them correctly to patients, and conducts necessary rhythm strip recordings at specified intervals.
  • Enters orders for new patient admissions and daily requirements when the registered nurse is unavailable.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythms in the emergency room as needed.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or an Intermediate Emergency Medical Services (EMS) License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Basic ECG rhythm recognition training within three months of employment.
  • PEARS certification from the AHA within six months of employment.
  • Previous experience as a CNA or in an EMS Intermediate role is preferred.
  • Prior experience as a monitor technician is also preferred.
