POSITION SUMMARY: Evaluates and addresses the effects of health conditions, injuries, developmental challenges, or psychological issues on patients' abilities to perform essential daily activities. This includes tasks such as mobility, personal grooming, nutrition, dressing, hygiene, driving, meal preparation, and employment. The role focuses on aiding patients in recovering, acquiring, and enhancing skills necessary for achieving maximum independence, minimizing joint stress, preventing additional joint injuries, and conserving energy. The therapist is responsible for crafting, executing, and overseeing the care plan tailored to the individual served. This position involves administering various occupational therapy techniques and collaborating closely with the patient, their family, and the interdisciplinary team throughout the therapeutic process.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Doctorate, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Current licensure from the American Occupational Therapy Association in New Mexico and BLS certification are mandatory.

SKILLS: Must demonstrate accountability and proficiency in assessment and evaluation, decision-making, and time management. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, along with organizational abilities, are essential.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year of experience in Occupational Therapy is preferred.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

Responsible to: Director/Manager of Rehabilitation Services

The work environment is clean, well-lit, and ventilated, with a smoke-free policy. There may be potential exposure to infectious diseases, aggressive patients, and hazardous materials. The role may involve managing stressful professional interactions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position requires good physical fitness. It involves prolonged periods of standing and walking, as well as lifting, positioning, and transferring patients, and handling occupied equipment. The therapist may need to lift supplies or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs, which could lead to strains from lifting heavy patients and equipment.
