POSITION SUMMARY: Evaluates and addresses the effects of health conditions, injuries, developmental challenges, or psychological issues on patients' ability to perform essential daily activities. This includes assisting with mobility, personal care, nutrition, dressing, hygiene, and vocational tasks. The role involves guiding patients to regain, enhance, and acquire skills necessary for achieving maximum independence, minimizing joint stress, preventing further injury, and conserving energy. The Occupational Therapist is accountable for creating, executing, and overseeing the care plan tailored to each individual.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Doctorate, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Valid licensure from the American Occupational Therapy Association in New Mexico and current BLS certification are mandatory.

SKILLS: Must exhibit responsibility and proficiency in assessment, evaluation, decision-making, and time management. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, along with organizational abilities, are essential.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year of experience in Occupational Therapy is preferred.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

Reports to: Director/Manager of Rehabilitation Services.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

- Bloodborne pathogen exposure risk: B

Operates in a clean, well-lit, and ventilated environment that is smoke-free. There is potential exposure to infectious diseases, challenging patients, and hazardous materials. The role may involve managing stressful professional interactions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must maintain good physical health. Responsibilities include prolonged standing and walking, lifting, positioning, and transferring patients, as well as handling equipment. Ability to lift supplies or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs is required. There is a risk of strains associated with lifting heavy patients and equipment.
