About the Role:
The Special Operations Department (N252) is on the lookout for an experienced and operationally-focused Systems Engineer to support the Special Operations Forces (SOF) program. This role involves shaping and developing opportunities for direct sponsor engagements in prototype development and strategic operational initiatives. You will collaborate with a globally integrated team and work closely with various MITRE departments to support the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and other related entities.
Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will:
- Engage in and lead MITRE's initiatives for Special Operations Forces.
- Possess a robust background in special operations, defense, and intelligence, with proven technical expertise in enhancing operational mission capabilities.
- Collaborate with the leadership team and other strategic elements within MITRE to develop tactical, operational, and strategic technological solutions for the SOF community.
- Work effectively with military and civilian experts to address critical mission needs and identify emerging methods to tackle SOF challenges.
Qualifications:
- Strategic Leadership: Define and guide strategic objectives, ensuring impactful and timely data-driven products.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrate familiarity with areas such as Special Operations, Operational Intelligence, Signature Management, Cyber Effects, and Unmanned Systems.
- Interpersonal Skills: Foster strong leadership and teamwork, effectively communicating project goals and impacts.
- Collaboration: Build a project team environment that engages with engineers, planners, and defense acquisition professionals.
- Senior Sponsor Engagement: Comfortably interact with senior military leaders and engineers.
- Adaptability: Modify approaches as priorities shift while operating within the SOF culture.
Basic Requirements:
- Typically a BS in Engineering, International Relations, or related fields with 8 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 6 years; or a PhD with 3 years of experience.
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with polygraph.
- Experience in Special Operations Forces.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with specialized mission needs in constrained operational environments.
- Capability in strategic planning and providing actionable plans to government sponsors.
- Success in leading capability development projects and transitioning prototypes to the SOF community.
