Pharmacy Department Director

This position oversees the efficient management of the medication use process in collaboration with the Medical Staff and Nursing Services. The Director of Pharmacy Services is responsible for organizing the processes and functions of the Pharmacy Department in accordance with Hospital and Departmental policy and applicable federal and state legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
* Develop and enforce policies and procedures that promote cost-effective, appropriate, and safe medication use.
* Develop and maintain a medical staff-approved formulary.
* Supervise medication storage and preparation areas throughout the facility.
* Provide for the educational needs of healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.
* Ensure maintenance of an adequate medication supply and integrity of the medication supply chain.
* Ensure strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients or distributed to floor stock.
* Assure adequate control and documentation of controlled substances.
* Ensure applicable CE records and licensure are maintained in department files.
* Contribute to the quality and effective operation of the department.
* Supervise all pharmacy personnel, including recruitment, interviewing, and performance evaluation.
* Develop job descriptions and performance standards.
* Evaluate and counsel staff on their performance.
* Evaluate work schedules against workload statistics and maintain an appropriate staffing level.
* Provide for the educational needs of the pharmacy staff.
* Prepare budget annually and review monthly financial statistics to plan expenditures within budget guidelines.
* Ensure preparation and submission of patient charges and financial reports to finance in accordance with policy.
* Administer reports, documents, payroll records, statistical surveys, and other required data.
* Ensure compliance with health system policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services.
Requirements:
* Doctorate degree in Pharmacy (RPH License in state of employment).
* 8+ years of technical experience and 7+ years of leadership/management experience.
