Flight Nurse Specialist

As a Flight Nurse with Lifenet, you will provide safe and quality nursing care to critically ill or injured patients in pre-hospital or hospital settings. You will work under the guidelines of state protocols and Lifenet standards of care, providing ongoing monitoring and nursing care during transport.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain the highest quality of patient care by carrying out established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Respond to requests for emergency medical care within prescribed time limits, providing both prehospital and continuation of hospital care.
- Utilize the nursing process while providing a wide range of specialty care interventions and therapies.
- Demonstrate and maintain an in-depth knowledge base of disease processes.
- Prepare and submit documentation of patient information according to Lifenet standards while keeping this information protected and private.
- Complete annual continuing education requirements within time limits set forth by administration.
- Maintain operational readiness and professionalism by adhering to and maintaining consistency with the administrative and departmental policies regarding appropriate behavior, dress, attitude, attendance, and reliability.
- Follow Lifenet guidelines for customer service and marketing.
- Transport critically ill patients in different modes of transportation to include ambulance, rotor, or fixed wing operations.
- Provide continuing education/training for internal and external partners.
- Attend monthly departmental staff meetings.
- Monitor inventory and expiration dates of supplies.
- Monitor temperature and process monitoring of blood products.
- Adhere to Lifenet policies for narcotic storage and administration.
- Inspect daily the general aircraft appearance and report any abnormalities to base lead and maintenance team.
- Adhere to Lifenet SOP's with regards to working with other divisions within Lifenet.
- Provide timely notification to the Director of Specialty Care Services of any negative impact to Lifenet's flight program that may occur while on or off duty.
- Adhere to safety, health, and regulatory requirements as described in the administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of the helicopter, fixed wing, and base of operations.
- Achieve and maintain a high level of appropriate communication between team members, pilots, and the Communications Center to help ensure unit readiness.
- Participate in pre-shift crew briefs with each oncoming pilot at the beginning of their shift.
- Maintain flight currency training as outlined by the flight department educator.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Current state license as a Registered Nurse in Texas, Arkansas or other compact state.
- Current EMT and/or Paramedic certification in both Texas and Arkansas (Paramedic preferred).
- Minimum three years critical care experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Current state driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Negative DOT drug screen.
- Current ACLS, BLS, NRP, TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS, PALS/PEPP/ENPC certifications required.
- NIMS Training ICS 100, 200, and 700 within 90 days of employment offer.
- Must gain CFRN certification 1yr from time of signing job description.
- Maintain a weight of less than 240lbs while in full flight gear.
- Effective oral and written communications skills.
- Functional movement to include heavy lifting of patients and equipment within highly stressed environments.
- Occasionally: MCIs, Life and death situations, High call volumes within a 24 hour period.
- Constantly: Flying day and night operations, Loud noises, Working while wearing helmet with night vision goggles, High pressure, Hazards environment.
- Occasionally: Climbing, kneeling, bending, standing, twisting, pushing, pulling, fine motor skills, reaching above shoulder level, lifting patients weighing greater than 250 pounds, driving or staffing an ambulance.
- Constantly: Hearing/listening, clear speech, upper and lower body flexibility, multiple physical & mental activities performed simultaneously.
- Occasionally: Extreme hot and cold temperatures, wet and/or humid conditions, vibration, pressurized equipment, moving objects, contact with body fluids, fumes/odors/mists, gases.
- Constantly: Works with and around others, work in confined area.
- Occasionally: Kitchen appliances, cleaning equipment, protective devices.
- Constantly: Stretcher, computer, maps, IV supplies, bandaging, medications, monitor/defibrillator, radio, critical care equipment, ventilator, trauma bag/box, narcotics.
