Position Title: Birthday Party Captain

Department: Participant Development

Reports to: Participant Development Manager

Primary Job Location: Sharks Ice San Jose

Employment Status: Non-exempt and part-time

Compensation: $17.55/hour

Position Summary:

The Birthday Party Captain, under the guidance of the Party Coordinator and in collaboration with department Managers, leads individual birthday celebrations. The Captain is responsible for creating a joyful and engaging atmosphere for guests by organizing the event, welcoming attendees, facilitating games, serving refreshments, providing skating instruction, and managing post-event clean-up. The role is essential in ensuring that each birthday child, their family, and all participants enjoy a distinctive and memorable experience at Sharks Ice.


Shift Information:

  • Shifts primarily occur on weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

Event Preparation:

  • Adheres to the agenda and details provided by the Party Coordinator during the pre-party briefing.
  • Confirms food orders, event scheduling, and public session programming with the Party Coordinator.
  • Arranges table decorations and party favors.
  • Assists in various preparation tasks as needed.

Event Execution:

  • Ensures that party areas are clean and organized promptly before, during, and after the event.
  • Welcomes parents, the birthday individual, and children upon arrival, guiding them to their designated area and explaining the event timeline.
  • Assists participants with fitting and tying skates.
  • Provides verbal instructions both off-ice and on-ice according to the event agenda.
  • Plans and facilitates a variety of birthday games both on and off the ice, as well as in the party area, following the agenda.
  • Coordinates the birthday group during the event, ensuring all attendees engage in scheduled activities, with special attention to the birthday child.
  • Ensures the party contact settles any outstanding balance.
  • Cleans and organizes party rooms, including continuous clearing of plates, cups, and trash throughout the event.
  • Conducts post-event clean-up.
  • Provides exceptional customer service (e.g., recording gift lists, offering to take photos).
  • Collaborates effectively with other Party Captains under the direction of the Party Coordinator to deliver a cohesive and enjoyable event experience.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient ice skating skills are required.
  • Must be team-oriented.
  • Previous experience in an ice rink setting is preferred.
  • Experience in recreation, childcare, or education is advantageous.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks is essential.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.
  • Dependable transportation is necessary.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Must be comfortable working in a cold environment.
