Veterinarian for Animal Services

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinarian to join our team at the City of El Paso, TX. As a Veterinarian for Animal Services, you will be responsible for providing routine health care and medical treatment to animals brought to the Animal Regulation and Disease Control (ARDC) facility.
Key Responsibilities- Render veterinary care and treatment to animals, including routine and emergency medical care, surgery, and post-operative care.
- Plan, implement, and administer preventive medicine programs to ensure the health and well-being of animals.
- Administer anesthesia and direct physical restraint of animals to ensure safety and minimize risk to staff and animals.
- Conduct postmortem examinations and oversee laboratory preparation of sample tissues for disease identification and prevention.
- Monitor and recommend changes to animal diets, nutritional standards, and programs.
- Maintain detailed records of veterinary care, including drug and controlled drug logs.
- Enforce laws associated with domestic and wild animals, including participating in the care, feeding, humane treatment, and euthanasia of impounded animals.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or higher.
- Licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Texas by the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners prior to appointment or licensed in another state.
- Valid Texas Class C driver's license or equivalent from another state.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
This is an unclassified contract position. The selected candidate will be required to work in a variety of settings, including the ARDC facility and other locations within the City of El Paso, TX.
