General Summary:
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Perioperative Services and the Operating Room Clinical Coordinator, and under the guidance of the Operating Room Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist will facilitate safe and effective surgical, invasive, and diagnostic procedures. This role is critical in ensuring patient safety by providing the surgeon with necessary supplies, functional equipment, and instruments. The Surgical Technologist must demonstrate expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the implementation of tools and technologies that support the surgeon's performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver patient-centered care to individuals of all ages undergoing elective and emergency surgical procedures.
  • Minimize delays for the surgical team by ensuring the availability of supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Act as a resource for other surgical personnel, including Operating Room and Perinatal Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, and students.
  • Communicate any changes in supplies, instruments, and equipment as requested by the physician.
  • Maintain competency in scrubbing for all elective and emergency surgical procedures.
  • Participate in educational programs and unit-based staff meetings, ensuring knowledge of current AORN Standards and Recommended Practices.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of policies and procedures related to surgical technology.
Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program is required.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) is mandatory.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to respond to the hospital within 30 minutes when on-call.
  • Preferred experience in cardiac surgery.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a surgical technologist is preferred.
