SCHEDULE: Full-time, 6:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. + call
4x10hr shifts; on-call every other weekend/holiday rotation required.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Perioperative Services and the OR Clinical Coordinator, and under the direction of the OR RN, the Certified Surgical Technologist will facilitate safe and effective surgical, invasive, and diagnostic procedures. This role is crucial in ensuring patient safety by providing the surgeon with the necessary supplies, functioning equipment, and instruments. The surgical technologist must possess expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the tools and technologies that support a surgeon's performance during invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures. Compliance with all regulatory agencies, including The Joint Commission, Department of Public Health, CMS, CDC, and OSHA, is mandatory.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver competency-based, patient-centered care to individuals of all ages undergoing elective and emergency surgical, invasive, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Minimize delays for the surgical team and patients by ensuring the availability of supplies, instruments, and equipment, while participating in all activities to ensure that all operating room preparations are complete.
  • Act as a resource for other scrub personnel, including OR and Perinatal RNs, Surgical Technologists, and students.
  • Communicate any changes in supplies, instruments, and equipment requested by physicians to the Specialty Service Leader.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE:
  • Competent in scrubbing for all elective and emergency surgical procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of AORN Standards and Recommended Practices.
  • Actively participate in unit-based staff meetings and educational programs, seeking information when unable to attend.
  • Stay informed about clinical advancements in equipment and supplies used in surgical procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of policies and procedures.
ONBOARDING PROCESS:

Candidates must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment health screening, which includes a drug screen.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program is required.
  • CST – Certified Surgical Technologist certification.
  • NBSTSA – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting certification.
  • BLS – American Heart Association certification.
  • Ability to arrive at the hospital within 30 minutes when on-call.
  • Cardiac experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of surgical technologist experience.
