Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement production plans to meet customer demand while minimizing inventory levels.

  • Assist with interviewing, hiring, and training employees, as well as planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Appraise performance, reward, and discipline employees, and address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of department goals and objectives.
  • Schedule work orders based on lead times, complexity, and manpower and equipment availability.
  • Assist the Quality Coordinator with the investigation and completion of corrective actions.
  • Assist the Quality Coordinator with the update of controlled documents to ensure they reflect the current process.
  • Motivate self and others to accomplish important objectives despite a complex environment and multiple demands.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly with all audiences, keeping others informed and listening carefully to input and feedback.
  • Oversee the department's daily activities and future workloads, including manpower and hours of operation.
  • Identify and document personnel issues and achievements, and prepare quarterly and annual reviews.
  • Manage the control of overtime hours, vacation requests, and absenteeism covers.
  • Contribute to decisions in hiring, discharge, transfers, and promotions.
  • Review production schedules and revise them for changing work order specifications.
  • Communicate and follow up with production supervisors and operations managers to implement the daily and weekly production schedule.
  • Be on call for staff and after-hours emergencies.
  • Assist in planning and communicating project-related information.
  • Compile new work orders as needed.
  • Communicate with Inventory Leads about problems that slow down production, such as equipment failures, supply or manpower issues.
  • Work closely with inventory coordinators to determine inventory levels and packaging needs.
  • Develop and maintain production reports with current data.
  • Provide packaging instructions for railcars based on customer requirements.
  • Enforce disciplinary actions, such as verbal reprimands and written reprimands.
  • Monitor production supervisors' reports for accuracy.
  • Communicate the department's needs to upper management and submit maintenance requests to the appropriate personnel.
  • Oversee inventory movements by scheduling materials to be moved to and from warehouses, coordinating inventory transfers with related departments.
  • Oversee the recycling/baling program in coordination with the appropriate personnel.
Requirements
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred or High School Diploma with 5-10 years of extensive production experience.
  • Ability to read and understand documents such as work orders, packaging requests, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle high-stress decision-making scenarios.
  • Able to work independently and willing to take on additional duties as needed.
