Role Summary

The Rehabilitation Therapist is responsible for delivering therapeutic services and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or concurrent mental health and substance use disorders, aimed at fostering, recovering, and/or maintaining daily living skills. The therapist will provide effective, client-focused services that empower individuals to perform daily tasks independently and with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Address various performance aspects to enhance participation in activities that promote health, well-being, and quality of life.
  • Select and customize the appropriate occupational therapy treatment model, method, and approach for each case to guide intervention processes.
  • Implement interventions to enhance safety and performance in daily living activities (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL).
  • Instruct clients on innovative methods for task completion and educate them on breaking down activities into manageable steps.
  • Evaluate clients' home and other environments, providing recommendations for modifications that align with their needs and capabilities.
  • Advise on adaptive equipment and provide training for its effective use as necessary.
  • Support and educate family members and caregivers.
  • Monitor, document, and report on the progress of both long-term and short-term treatment objectives.
  • Gather data and maintain records of the processes followed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience is required; experience with adults with Intellectual Disabilities is preferred; experience as a fieldwork educator is also preferred.
  • Active certification and state licensure are mandatory.
  • Skills in evaluation, treatment planning, and intervention specific to the developmentally disabled population.
  • Competencies in supervising, evaluating, and mentoring occupational therapy fieldwork students.
  • Administrative skills necessary for managing a student fieldwork program.
  • Consultation abilities.
  • Understanding of the effects of trauma on the well-being of individuals supported within the program, as well as its impact on staff well-being, is preferred.
