Position Overview:

The Director of Credit, Institutional Group will be responsible for leading our underwriting team within Private Client Operations, reporting directly to the VP of Operations. This pivotal role involves overseeing a team of skilled underwriters, conducting comprehensive credit assessments for substantial portfolio loans, and providing strategic guidance on intricate commercial real estate transactions. You will uphold the highest standards of credit quality, monitor production and performance metrics, and actively participate in credit committee discussions.

This is a full-time role based in our New York office, offering a strategic leadership opportunity within a dynamic work environment that encourages career growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Credit Leadership: Formulate and execute credit strategies that align with the company’s objectives, ensuring effective risk management and credit integrity.
  • Credit Analysis & Approval: Perform high-level evaluations and authorize loans ranging from $5M to $20M, and fully underwrite loans exceeding $10M for credit committee endorsement.
  • Credit Committee Leadership: Actively participate in credit committee meetings to address deal-related matters and ensure informed decision-making.
  • Risk Assessment: Supervise the assessment of various properties and borrower profiles to identify potential risks, ensuring thorough due diligence.
  • Credit Summaries: Develop comprehensive credit summary reports that consolidate loan applications and analyses for presentation to Capital Partners.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Guide and mentor the credit underwriting team, fostering a culture of high performance and aligning their development with organizational goals.
  • Post-Closing Management: Oversee post-closing credit issues, ensuring minimal errors and preventing unsalable loans.
  • Productivity & Turnaround: Ensure that productivity levels and turnaround times meet management expectations, prioritizing underwriting and credit reviews.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Extensive experience in credit analysis and underwriting within the real estate investment sector, with a proven leadership track record.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to motivate and achieve business objectives.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with senior leadership and staff.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to anticipate and fulfill the needs of business stakeholders.
