About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Cook to join our team at the Good Samaritan Society. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in providing nutritious and appealing meals to our residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate production, preparation, and serving of meals to residents, following orders, standards, and regulations.
- Assist in the development of pleasing and unique recipes and menu creation.
- Maintain continuous quality improvement of meals prepared and served daily.
- Responsible for kitchen/dining management, including delegation of kitchen cleanliness and education/training of cleaning policies.
- Observe, measure, and document information as assigned.
- Provide residents with opportunities for independence and choice consistent with their service plans.
- Keep residents' dining areas pleasant and orderly.
- Check equipment before use and notify supervisors or maintenance staff of problems.
- Operate dishwashing and kitchen equipment safely.
- Notify appropriate staff of problems, use safe lifting techniques, immediately clean up spills, and demonstrate proper use of chemicals used for cleaning and sanitizing and appropriate use of kitchen tools and procedures.
- Work at special events as needed, set up and clean dining room, multi-purpose rooms or other rooms as needed, help prepare and serve food for special events.
- Follow location infection control procedures and OSHA and CDC guidelines that apply to blood borne pathogens while serving food, assisting residents and cleaning.
- Wash hands per facility guidelines, perform cleaning duties in kitchen and dining area, may include dishwashing.
- Clean and sanitize equipment as assigned.
Requirements
Prior work experience in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets or related experience in a similar type of setting is preferred.
Ability to measure and comprehend certain quantities. Certification as a food protection manager by ServSafe or other equivalent ANSI approved program is preferred before assuming duties of person in charge.
Basic ability to communicate and comprehend. Able to demonstrate knowledge of foodborne disease prevention and apply food safety principles.
